Egg sac (I think?) in plant

Came home from vacation to find this in plant on porch.

Hi there,
What you have is a mushroom that has collapsed. They aren't bad and will recycle nutrients in the soil. I wasn't sure of the identification, so reached out to a mushroom expert, and they let me know that it was an older specimen, so that is why the cap had collapsed. I hope you had a nice vacation.

Thank you! I was thinking it wasn’t a mushroom bc there was no stem from the “specimen” down to the dirt. It looked like it was just attached to the branches. Thanks so much!!

You are welcome. I can see why there are people who love to study fungi. That one looks so interesting with the cap and striations.
