Could you please help me identify this wasp looking critter?

Asked July 9, 2020, 8:39 PM EDT

Hi there,
I found this out in my flowers, we have children running around and want to make sure this is not dangerous. I did some research and I think its a tremex columba (pigeon tremex) but this one has a tail that is about 2 inches long. What did you think?
thank you in advance,

Thank you for the images. You're a good insect identifier. It is a pigeon tremex.

The long device from the end of its abdomen is an ovipositor (to insert eggs in wood-boring pests), not a stinger. It won't damage people or their pets.

Hi Jean,
Thank you so much for your reply, I let it go after I emailed you. I felt pretty confident in my assessment : )
I really appreciate you help,

Thanks again,
