What is this?

Asked July 8, 2020, 9:35 AM EDT

I have a vine growing profusely on a slope by the lake. It has a woody base, like a Virginia creeper. Is this poison ivy? The leaves look narrower and they are serrated, which I didn’t think was typical for poison ivy. Thank you.

Hello. Happy to help.

This looks like virgin's bower (Clematis virginiana), a native. I've attached a link to more information with photos of the flowers and seed heads to help you confirm this identity. If you don't think this is it, please forward more information including flower color, shape, and month of bloom.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you so much!
