White pine died

Asked July 5, 2020, 3:08 PM EDT

I have a 25 year old white pine in a small grove of trees that died suddenly. No one walks near this tree and the other white pine in the area seem good. The tree bark had white spots on it. See the attached picture.

We can't tell what led to the tree's death by viewing the photo. The white spots might be harmless lichens or evidence disease or damage caused by borers or other insects.

A forester or certified arborist might be able to diagnose the problem by examining what's left of the tree onsite.
