Japanese maple malformed undeveloped leaves

Asked July 5, 2020, 1:31 PM EDT

Hello I have a weeping Japanese maple that has undeveloped leaves on beaches. There were also a lot of suckers we removed from the main trunk. This just happened this year and I don’t know what is stressing it. It has been healthy up until this year. It is in front of our house facing East so it gets morning sun and protected from afternoon heat. Any suggestions appreciated. Marie J

Could you please send a photo of the whole tree? Is the entire tree affected? If not, is the problem only on one or two branches? How tall is the tree? What are your summer irrigation practices for the tree? Has your tree been near any herbicide treatment, including lawn "weed and feed" application? Please get back to me, and we'll get started. Thanks.
