Scans on honey crisp apple leaves

Asked July 4, 2020, 6:03 PM EDT

I live in northern Minnesota and I purchased a honey crisp apple tree this spring from a mail order nursery I noticed these brown scab looking circles on the leaves I contacted the nursery and they told me it was because I should only water it in the morning I water down at the ground and most of the brown spotted leaves are over half way up the tree

It looks like cedar apple rust perhaps or apple scab. Both are common disease and usually only cause cosmetic damage.

Take a look at our diagnostic tool "What's wrong with my plant?" to see pictures, descriptions and ultimately resources for management.

Our apple webpage has excellent resources too: https://extension.umn.edu/find-plants/fruit#apples--36410
