Unripe raspberries shrivel and die

Asked July 3, 2020, 11:13 AM EDT

Hi, my raspberries are sick. A lot of fruit set but many are dieing. Ripening fruit appear to be getting patches of die off (looks like it's drying out or fungal patches). Relatively little leaf die off.

I suspect you are dealing with the Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) a type of fruit fly. The SWD has become a major pest of soft fruit like raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. This is a good place to start on SWD information https://fruit.cornell.edu/spottedwing/
Set out monitoring traps and try to pick the fruit a bit early, wash well and keep your raspberry patch well water (they do not like to be dry) and cleaned up in the fall.
Hope this helps.
