Insect damage - indiscriminate and voraciousl

Some bug is destroying healthy plants overnight - soap and water spray did nothing - zinnias, Maple sapling, jalapeño plant and sweet potato vine So far- what might it be and how do I stop it?

Hello. There may be more than one kind of pest on your plants. Have you seen any caterpillars or other insects? I suggest you go out after dark with a flashlight and check your ornamentals, many insects do their munching in the dark. Some nighttime culprits could be asiatic garden beetles, slugs or earwigs.
