Red spots gooseberry

Asked June 30, 2020, 10:11 PM EDT

Hi, my hinomakis and pixel gooseberry both appear to be healthy, strong vigorous shoots, green leaves, good production this year. A good chunk of the berries have this dark red spot on them. Do you know what this could be?

Thank you for your question. Without knowing your location, we do not know what diseases and insects you have. The best we can do is to provide you with an article on their care: https://plantvillage.psu.edu/topics/gooseberry/infos/diseases_and_pests_description_uses_propagation Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Southern Manitoba, canada. Thanks for link to article. Some, not a lot of the berries are dropping before ripening and the red spotted ones appear to be a rotten spot.

I suspect you have an infestation of mormorated stink bugs, described in the article I attached. However, you may obtain more localized information by contacting a Master Gardener in your province: https://www.mgmanitoba.com/ask-an-mg/
