Tree Question

Asked June 29, 2020, 8:29 AM EDT

Good morning. I have an issue with my oak tree. It looks like there is something that looks like algae growing on it. Is this harmful to the tree? Is there a way to treat whatever is causing this? Thank You, Juliann Bradish

You are seeing lichens, common growths on trees as well as many other surfaces and no they are not not harmful to the tree. There are many different species in numerous shapes. colors, etc., that will grow on just about any surface when conditions are right.
