Cover crop identification

Asked June 27, 2020, 6:29 PM EDT

In May I saw this cover crop in a, soon to be, field of no-till corn. I’ve tried to identify this crop w/ no luck and was hoping one of your experts could ID it for me. TIA

Hi - This looks like pepperweed (Lepidium campestre). Here is a profile from Virginia Tech. https://weedid.cals.vt.edu/weedimg/117

We do have several types of Lepidium in Maryland (listed here, https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewChecklist.php?genus=Lepidium) but field pepperweed seems most likely given the shape of the pods.
