Striped cucumber beetle

Asked June 26, 2020, 7:48 PM EDT

I have a vegetable plot and have what appears to be striped cucumber beetles attacking my butternut and mother Hubbard squash, summer squash and zucchini. Please advise. This is an organic garden so I’m not sure what I can use. Thank you

Take a look at the following page to determine if your insect is striped cucumber beetle: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/cucumber-beetles#:~:text=Striped%20cucumber%20beetles%20can%20carry,weed%20hosts%20or%20infected%20cucurbits.If it is, the main concern is that the beetles can carry a disease that causes bacterial wilt.

If you only have a few insects, hand-picking will be the easiest solution. Neem or pytrethrins will kill them on contact, but they have a short residual period on the plan.
