Squirrels Eating My Arborvitae Trees

Asked June 24, 2020, 3:41 PM EDT

Squirrels have started eating our arborvitae trees. They are taking the leaves off. We keep picking up a lot of leave every day. The tops of the trees are almost stripped bare. What might be causing this and what we can do to stop it?

Likely squirrels yes but not for food. Most likely for nesting material. We have no cure for this, other than exclusion by fencing, barriers, etc. not likely with other trees nearby. Professional wildlife control companies may be able to help you. Read more here: https://web.extension.illinois.edu/askextension/thisQuestion.cfm?ThreadID=17440&catID=251&AskSiteID=98
