St. John's Wort

Asked June 24, 2020, 3:23 PM EDT

I am a trained aromatherapist and budding herbalist. After planting St. John's Wort intending to use it for topical application, I realized it was Hypericum x patulum "Hidcote." However, Hypernicum perforatum is the variety in most of the literature, herbalism books and even PubMed. No one seems to know if Hidcote is similar enough to perforatum for topical application. The garden center where I purchased Hidcote said they have never carried perforatum and were not familiar with it. Hoping you can help out.
