Michigan Mobile Meat Processing

Asked June 24, 2020, 11:26 AM EDT

Does anyone know the legal requirements to start and offer Mobile/on farm meat processing? I would really like to do this and have experience in the field already

Wayne County Michigan

The regulations required will depend on who the meat is being processed for and how it is being sold.

If USDA inspection is required to sell the meat to others, then a Federal Grant of Inspection is needed and there are Mobile Slaughter Compliance Guidelines to follow.

If the live animals are being processed as custom exempt, meaning the owner(s) of the live animal are using the meat for their own personal use and each package is marked "not for sale", then these guidelines should be followed.
