This is Houttuynia cordata, a perennial that was introduced but is becoming an invasive. It can grow in water and in soil, and it is feared that it will rapidly take over in wetlands and displace our native species. It would be best to attempt to remove all parts of the plant as thoroughly as possible and dispose of it in the trash. Here is a little more information on the plant. http://www.iucngisd.org/gisd/species.php?sc=854
wow! I’m glad I asked. It’s in a couple other places on my property so I’ll make sure to weed it out.
