Shrub ID

There was a small tree that recently bloomed on my family's property. The bees (honey, carpenter, bumblebee) and butterflies (swallowtail) seemed to love it. I was wondering if you could identify it for me. ~ thank you!

Hi - This looks like a type of privet. Lilac is very similar (both plants are in the same family), but given the timing of flowering and the leaf characteristics, privet seems more likely. One way to know for sure would be to watch for the berries to develop. Privets develop round berries that turn blue-black, whereas lilac develops green fruits that turn to dry brown capsules.
