what plant is this?

Asked June 20, 2020, 1:35 PM EDT

Can you help me determine which plant this is? It has pretty yellow flowers blooming now in June. It's grown so well without any maintenance or care at all even though the soil is poor and not mulched for some time. Also, the deer and other critters don't seem to bother it. Some people have said it's St. John's Wart. Others have called it Sundrop. I want to plant more but don't know what to ask for. Thanks for your help

Hi - This is St. John's wort (Hypericum sp.). There are several different species and cultivated varieties, which you can explore further here. https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/find_a_plant/?q=hypericum

Hypericum densiflorum is the species of St. John's wort that is native to Maryland. Yours looks like it might be H. calycinum. https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/hypericum-calycinum/
