Fuyu Persimmon Tree

Asked June 17, 2020, 6:12 PM EDT

Last Fall I watched a few videos on proper pruning of persimmon trees. Now, it appears that I literally will have thousands of persimmons on my tree this year! I am concerned that the abundance will break numerous branches on tree. What should I do?

Your persimmon tree is looking very healthy!

As the season progresses, you can thin the fruit such that the weight of fruit plus the weight of the branches/leaves won't break branches. In general, thin so that fruit are every 4-8 inches apart. You'll get fewer but higher quality fruit.

As you are working on the trees, you can also thin out branches that are going downward or across the tree to lessen the overall weight of branches.

Good luck.
