Will the beet root benefit by trimming the beet leaves? Thank You
Hennepin County Minnesota
I checked 3 of my favorite research based sites for information on growing beets. None of them recommend removing leaves. They DO all talk about being sure to thin your beets adequately. Here's a link to a info sheet that seemed pretty easy to understand:http://sacmg.ucanr.edu/Growing_beets/
The other thing I saw regarding beet leaves that that you should try to keep them from getting wet when watering. Wet leaves can lead to fungus problems. They recommend watering early in the AM to let leaves get a chance to try out before night.
Thanks for your question!
