Our pear tree bloomed and now several branches have no leaves. There are no visible insects on the tree. The tree is about 6 feet tall and a bit over an inch in diameter.

Is your tree a recent transplant? The description sounds like transplant shock. Your tree will need about an inch of water every week until the ground freezes and more if it very hot. If the soil is dry to 2 inches it needs water but not too much water, the soil should not be soggy. If that isn’t the case the problem may be with the roots. Root rot will cause branches to drop their leaves. Or if the branches are small and at the top of the tree leaf loss could be from temps in the 90’s.
