Gypsy moth infestation

Asked June 12, 2020, 8:11 AM EDT

We are dealing with what I believe to be a gypsy moth infestation in Deckerville, MI area home. Not sure who to turn to......pest control? The black caterpillars with webs seem to be everywhere.....on all landscaping/flowers and covering sides of house. Thanks for any information you can give me of where to get help!

MSU has a webpage dedicated to resources on gypsy moth. https://www.canr.msu.edu/ipm/invasive_species/Gypsy-Moth/index

If there are still young caterpillars on the leaves, you can spray Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki) onto the leaves. This chemical only kills gypsy moth and a few species of caterpillars in trees. Some municipalities have arrangements to spray areas with high populations of gypsy moth. I would recommend contacting the County extension office (msue.stclair@county.msu.edu) to see if they know if St. Clair County funds these efforts.
