Feeding fresh corn

Asked June 11, 2020, 10:29 PM EDT

Can horses be fed field corn, still on the cob? The corn is too tough for use by humans.

Yes. It is more unusual today but in yesteryear it was fairly common for work horses. They may bite the kernels off and leave the cobs but many horses will come back and eat the cobs which are essentially fiber.

Whether on the cob, whole kernel, cracked or rolled, corn is a nutrient dense energy source so you need to be aware of how much you provide per feeding.
