What is this?

Hi, I think I have a kind of stinkhorn fungus coming up in the wood debris on my property, but I cannot find an image of an exact match. It normally comes up late October, but this year it came up in May. It appears for a few days and then deflates like a balloon. I live in Yamhill County, but the wood shavings are from Roseburg and further south. What is this?

Yamhill County Oregon

Thank you for your question. Our mushroom expert is unavailable, but this looks like an old mushroom called the Phallus impudicus, described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phallus_impudicus

Since I am not a fungus expert (and can't find anyone available who is), I suggest you just let it decompose, returning nutrients to the soil, and do not consume it. Good luck!
