Maple Tree Diseased Leaves

Asked June 5, 2020, 7:35 PM EDT

My father-in-law is looking for a diagnosis for his Maple tree. The leaves are disclored with blackish spots. He lives along Lake Michigan.

Maple anthracnose is occurring frequently this year affecting many maple trees. I suspect that is what is going on with your tree. Here is how to manage according to Extension-“ So what can you do? A light application of fertilizer to provide readily-available nutrients and making sure the tree has adequate water during periods of drought over summer will help trees recover from the stress of putting out a new set of leaves. MSU Extension also suggests raking up and discarding fallen leaves, because many of the fungi that cause diseases overwinter on twigs and bud scales.”
Here is the complete article –

Because it is late spring, if you apply a fertilizer make it a “light application”, that is, a ½ dose of what is recommended here-
Most importantly, keep the tree watered.
