Maple Tree Black Spots

Asked June 3, 2020, 11:44 AM EDT

I have a very large Maple Tree that has black spots all over the leaves. I know this is not good, what can I do for it, I would hate to lose it? They are not so prevalent where the sun hits it, but in the shaded areas it's prolific. There is a 60' white pine to the east of it that shades most everything except the direct south facing part. It is shaded by another really tall white pine to the west of it as well.

Thank you for your question. We have seen this quite a bit recently. It is possible that it is anthracnose. Mature trees are very strong. And your tree looks pretty good! The heat and sun help, which explains why part of the tree looks better. I don’t know that I would take any action. Here are some resources that I hope you find helpful.
