Caterpillars eating my berry plant

Asked June 2, 2020, 2:10 PM EDT

Hello, I have little green caterpillars eating all of the leaves off of my goose berry plant. What are they and what can I do to stop them? Thanks. Kevin

It may be the larvae of a sawfly, two different types https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/small-fruit/currant-gooseberry/currant-gooseberry-currant-borer or https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/small-fruit/currant-gooseberry/currant-gooseberry-imported-currant-w.... There are no registered chemicals for home use. For general controls of insects, you can try insecticidal soap, which are considered safe for fruit and vegetable crops https://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=18009
