Re-use of potting soil in container garden

Asked June 1, 2020, 10:36 AM EDT

Hi! I know it's not typically advised to re-use potting soil, but... It's really expensive and if there hasn't been any diseases w/ the plants that grew in that soil, couldn't I re-use it for planting a different type of vegetable than one that had originally grown in it and amend w/ fertilizer, etc.?

It will need to be amended with fertilizer because any nutrients will have been used up. I reuse mine and mix it with new soil, not the best but it is expensive stuff.

How do you know how much and w/ what to amend it with? Thanks!

Follow the directions on the fertilizer label. You don’t have to supplement and the plants will still grow they just might not reach their full potential.
