Hydrangea leaves browning and curling?

Asked May 31, 2020, 7:58 PM EDT

Hi OSU Extension I am trying to identify a problem with several of my Hydrangea plants and wondered if you could help me. I have attached photos below. The leaves in several of my hydrangeas are curling with brown spots throughout. The plants have not bloomed yet, but have plenty of soon to be blooms. Can you help me identify what the problem is, and if so what I can do to alleviate it? Thank you Jaci Evans

Your hydrangeas are suffering from environmental stress - the recent high daytime temperatures and low soil moisture.

To remedy this:
- Water the hydrangeas thoroughly, out to the discipline (branch tips).
- Rig temporary shade during hot weather.
- If the shrubs are in pots, temporarily move them to a less sunny site.
