What kind of shrub is this?

Asked May 31, 2020, 6:35 PM EDT

Been trying for years to determine what kind of shrub is in the picture. It produces very hard berries that are dark purple in color. Was thinking it was solnum burbankii but I don’t think the leaves match. This one is more of a waxy slender leaf.

Would you please send a picture of the entire bush and tell me as much as you can about the shrub? what color are the flowers, how tall does it grow, when does it bloom? thanks.

Can’t remember the color of the flower.

Thank you for sending additional photos. The shrub in the photo appears to be a Glossy-leafed Buckthorn. It is considered an invasive species in Minnesota and removal is strongly recommended. Another Master Gardener suggested your shrub is likely a Black Chokeberry. Below is a link with information and photos. Please compare. If it is a Black Chokeberry it is not considered invasive and no need to remove. https://extension.umn.edu/trees-and-shrubs/black-chokeberry
