Ginkgo with some scorched leaves

Asked May 26, 2020, 7:09 PM EDT

I pruned this 15 year old ginkgo in February and for the first time this spring many of the leaves are shriveled and brown at the edge. Some branches have beautiful normal leaves and some do not.

You are not alone, many plants were damaged by the late freeze Michigan had in early May. This is freeze damage and the tree will push out new leaves in time. This may take several more weeks. Some of the newer leaves may have damaged edges, too if the secondary buds were hit by the freeze. Keep the tree watered if we have long dry spells, to help it recover.
