White spots on basil leaves

Asked May 26, 2020, 3:55 PM EDT

Hello, I started this Thai basil plant from seed and planted it outside after hardening it off. A few days later, it has white spots on leaves. Can you please help me identify the problem and suggest what I can do? Thanks a lot!

Hi- this kind of spotting and discoloration is from transplant shock and environmental stress- cold temps at night, temperature swings, wind, bright sun following overcast days, etc. Tender, warm-season annual need time to acclimate. The root system of the basil plant is tiny with limited ability to take up nutrients and water. The plant will outgrow this early season minor injury. Good luck,
