Dying dogwood

Asked May 25, 2020, 12:59 PM EDT

My dogwood is probably 75 or older + not even close to being as full + lush as it once was, but now there are two types of exidia plana (black tar-like + flesh colored ripply) growing on it. I know it's on its way out but how much longer can it live? Should i replace it now or wait for the inevitable

Thank you for your question. It is difficult for us to diagnose a plant problem, and nigh impossible to estimate a tree's future, without a photo of the plant. Since local Extension offices are better equipped to do such evaluation, I suggest you contact your local Extension office, whose information is at the bottom of this webpage: http://ccenassau.org/

Good luck!
