remoovoing a bamboo tree for good

Asked May 23, 2020, 2:38 PM EDT

I planted a golden bamboo in a pot 4 years ago. It has escaped that pot and I am finding the roots everywhere. They are shooting up bamboo limbs. Is there a substance that will will those roots and finally the tree? I do not want a lethal or injurious to human or pet substance.

You can eventually kill off a bamboo by regularly cutting or mowing off the shoots. Bamboo only grows vigorously in the spring, and if you cut off a shoot it will not sprout another one from the same place. You can also help the process along by digging out as many of the roots as you can. If you keep it from growing in this way, the roots will exhaust their energy and, as with any plant, they will die.
