Flying insect identification

Hello, I found a very large hornet-like thing flying around my bathroom. I made the difficult decision to kill it rather than adopt it as a pet. I would love to know what it is so I can put an end to any potential problems. My home seems to attract very large insects. Last year it was a spider that I ended up just naming because I couldn’t catch it, but that’s beside the point. Any information would be appreciated! The hornet is about 1.25 in. What you have there is a European hornet.
They fly at night and are attracted to light, so can sometimes get in when a door or window is opened. Turning off your outside light and pulling curtains can make that less likely.
