Red Tip Photinia

Asked May 16, 2020, 8:20 AM EDT

What’s causing the spots and what do I do about it? Have on one but next to it another shows no signs of this but I’m worried it will spread. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.

The problem is very common on red-tip Photinia . This is called Entomosporium leaf spot.

This VCE publication by Mary Ann Hansen, Extension Pathologist, describes the problem along with cultural and chemical recommendations: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/450/450-609/450-609_pdf.pdf

Fungicides would need to be applied preventative through the growing season.
