How to get rid of Cicadas?
Franklin County Virginia
Thank you for your question. I may need more information to fully answer your question. But I'll make the assumption that you are taking about general control in the landscape.
Cicada, like Japanese Beetles, are difficult to control because they are flying insects. You may be able to control the ones that are on a plant when you spray, but then others may fly in afterwards and not being affected.
VCE's Home and Ground's Pest Management Guide can be found at: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/456/456-018/ENTO-336D.pdf. Control recommendations are found on page 4-41. These recommendations are for the home landscape.
We also have a publication that gives more information about periodical cicadas that can be found at: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam/pubs_ext_vt_edu/444/444-276/444-276_pdf.pdf.
