Cherry Trees

Asked May 15, 2020, 12:39 PM EDT

Hi! I live in the Jackson area and I’m interested in purchasing and planting some cherry trees. I’m specifically looking for sweet, dwarf cherry trees. I was wondering if you’d have a recommendation on the best type of tree and where I should purchase it from. Does MSU have a nursery where I could buy some? Is it better to do a bareroot or a sapling? Thank you so much for any help and recommendations you may give! Alice

It is getting late for bare root plants; however, containers grown trees may be more mature and can be planted later. Don't forget to consider pollination requirements. Some of the better quality trees are not self pollinating. These are Black Pearl, Kristin, Attika, and Summit. Unfortunately, we do not sell trees or recommend retailers. Check with your local garden centers. Also check out the following link: https://www.canr.msu.edu/uploads/resources/pdfs/growing_tree_fruits_(e3173).pdf
I hope this is helpful,
