Night Blooming Cereus bud growing from tip of leaf

Asked May 15, 2020, 12:19 PM EDT

I’m curious because my night blooming cereus has a bud which is growing from the extended tip of a leaf instead of from an indentation on the side of the leaf. I’m wondering how frequent this is, since every picture I can find of a cereus in blossom has the bud growing from one of the indentations on the side. (By the way, I do know it’s not a real leaf, but I don’t know what else to call it)

An epiphyllum can flower from any of the buds on the "leaves"/ modified stem, though there are more locations along the sides so that is far more common.
