Type of tree parasite

Asked May 15, 2020, 12:05 PM EDT

Do you know what this is and what we should do to control it? There are around 5 nests in 2 trees that we have seen so far. Thank you!

Hello,

What kind of tree is that?

Howard

We are not sure, possibly some type of ? Ash? I have included some pictures of the other tree with some smaller infestations, in the same area as the tree with the bigger blob in it. It is just starting to leaf out.

If you can reach one those nests, cut it out and open it up to see what's in it. Send me some photos of what it looks like inside.

It is a woody fungus I think, looks similar to Chaga that grows on birch trees except it has some sappy areas.

Hello,

I think that is a cherry tree and the gall is black knot.

That definitely looks like what our trees have! Thank you so much for your help! Jo Ann
