Grass under Garryanna oaks

Asked May 14, 2020, 3:23 PM EDT

Hi! I want to plant some grass or mossy ground cover under my Garryanna oak grove. Something native would be great Mx something nice for the wildlife.

Planting natives plants for wildlife under your native oaks is a great idea. The best ones to plant would be those that grow naturally with Quercus garryanna. You can actually get a seed mix designed for that purpose from Heritage Seedlings, http://www.heritageseedlings.com/page_25_50/seed-prices-individual-species-and-mixes (click on Mixed Seedlings for the list of mixes). Or, if you only want to plant a few species, this is their list for Oak Woodland Understory - anything from this list would be suitable.
