Strawberry runners

Asked May 14, 2020, 2:33 PM EDT

I planted several varieties of strawberry plants this spring outdoors and all doing well, some larger than others. One cultivar, Hood, has gotten large and put out runners already. Should they be pruned now? I am concerned the runners will take away from the plant being able to support a berry crop this summer. Thank you.

Yes, remove these first year runners. You can plant them in another bed if you want more Hood strawberries or discard them. Thank you for your question.
