Butterfly bush - invasive?

Asked May 12, 2020, 10:00 PM EDT

I’ve read that we should plant butterfly bushes in butterfly gardens, but I’ve also read that we shouldn’t as it’s invasive and not really that great for butterfly health. What’s your advise?

The seeding forms of Buddleja davidii can be invasive and, although not banned in Minnesota, should not be used except for the sterile seedless varieties. I have seen Bee Balm and Monarda incorrectly labeled as Butterfly Bushes at some garden centers.
