Small bush/shrub identification

What is this? We have several in our yard, and they are primarily under large trees. They are 1-3’ tall, and have light green berries that eventually turn very dark purple/black. Native? Poisonous? Thanks so much!!

I'm not sure but you may have Myrica californica, Pacific wax berry or Pacific bay berry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrica_californica This is considered a native plant.

Do you have images of the flowers? This could be Daphne laureola, spurge laurel, and undesirable plant.
