Wild Ferns

Wild ferns planted about 5 years ago are dying. Turning brown at edges and then crumbling. Fee photos.

We think the symptoms you are seeing are the result of frost damage from the recent cold weather. Tender new foliage is more susceptible to damage from a sudden drop in temperature. Keep an eye on the plants to see if you notice any new symptoms develop in healthy foliage as the weather gets warmer (that would rule out cold injury). It does look like you have healthy new fronts that are still developing.

Thanks, I will watch them into the summer.
