Birch tree disease

Asked May 11, 2020, 10:17 AM EDT

Have this orange liquid on my white birch tree....small holes where the liquid seems to be coming from. Tree not very healthy in general.......what can I do to keep other birch trees in yard from getting affected.

Washington County Minnesota

The orange is sap that has become infected by a mold. The hole is the result probably of a woodpecker or possibly Bronze Birch Borer, or a woodpecker going after a borer.

I recommend you call and arborist and have the tree inspected.
