Evergreen Shrubs - Recovery from Pruning

Asked May 9, 2020, 8:12 AM EDT

Hello: I have several evergreen shrubs that were overgrown. I cut them back last fall and probably did it too aggressively and/or improperly. I now have dead/brown areas exposed. I am wondering if they will recover and green back up or if I have to remove and replace? I tried to submit this a couple of times and received no confirmations. Sorry if there are multiple submissions. Thank you - Greg Weigel

Some of it may come back. Wait to prune off the dead looking branches until mid June. Make sure the shrub gets an inch of water a week and water when the top two inches of soil are dry to keep it from browning.
