Thank you for the nice image of an Oregon native, the Yellow-spotted Millipede (Harpaphe haydeniana).

Millipedes are quite different than centipedes. When you look very closely at your image, notice the millipede has 2 pairs of legs per body segment. Thus the nickname of "thousand-legger" for millipedes. In spite of their large size and imposing appearance, they don't harm people or pets in any way. Instead, millipedes clean up decaying organic mater.

Centipedes have just one pair of legs per body segment. Thus the nickname of "hundred-legger" for centipedes.
