Soil texture

Asked April 22, 2020, 6:05 PM EDT

Good afternoon, I am from Southern Idaho where we had a sandy loam soil with an high ph. I now live in the Santa Clara area of Eugene and am starting a garden. Do you happen to know what the average ph and soil texture is around the area? Thank you, Shane

Average pH in the Santa Clara area will be 5.0 to 6.0 for native soil and may have a good amount of silt from historic flooding. Only digging will tell. Also, dig a 12" deep hole and fill with water. If the water drains readily, it is a good draining soil. If it is slow but drains, you will have to do some amending. If it does not drain, we need to rethink how to treat that. I would not expect the latter. I think you will enjoy our long growing season, almost Mediterranean.
