what is this plant?

Asked April 20, 2020, 3:18 PM EDT

It has sprouted everywhere. in the beginning, I thought it was my California rheas poppies bit the leaves are not green, more like mixture of chartreuse and purple and now, the buds are orange. I sow California red poppies before but missed it this past September and am just sowing them yesterday. Please advise

Calvert County Maryland

We agree the weeds in question are not any of your poppy seedlings, even if seeds had overwintered. This resembles Oriental False Hawkweed (Youngia japonica), an non-native plant common to this area: https://www.marylandbiodiversity.com/viewSpecies.php?species=14680. If the flowers open fully and appear not to match this ID, please send us another photo or two of the open flowers along with a shot of the foliage.

THANK YOU
I found 3-4 plants in my terrace and was waiting for the flowers to bloom
Today I found several out at my8 gate
I will go out and eradicate them before they become invasive
